Peritoneal Dialysis
PD is the procedure that occurs inside the body, in the abdominal cavity using peritoneal membrane as a filter. It is when solutes and fluid exchange occurs between peritoneal capillary blood and dialysis solution in the peritoneal cavity.
APD
An Automated Peritoneal Dialysis treatment where a patient is connected to a dialysis machine at home for a period of 10-12 hours depending on the Dr's prescription
CAPD
Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis is where a patient is doing 4 bag exchanges in 24hrs to remove solutes and excess water
PET TEST
Procedure done to check the patient's membrane functionality and the patients clearance to be able to modify dialysis treatments
Tube change
A mandatory procedure done every six months to minimise possible infections
